Pronounced ‘taiv-yark’, the word means ‘ghostly vision’. Formed from two Irish words, ‘taibhse’ meaning ghost, and ‘dearcadh’ meaning ‘view’, the name was chosen because the founders wanted to achieve an otherworldly vision on the stage.
VISION: To perpetuate and promote the National Irish Language Theatre with particular emphasis on leadership and completeness.
MISSION: To provide a professional national venue for the staging and publishing of Irish language performances in the Taibhdhearc and all over the country; to provide a facility to support development and innovation with audiences; to foster a new professional theatre workforce who work through the medium of the Irish language.
Ciallaíonn an focal Taibhdhearc ‘radharc nó láthair dhraíochtach’. Is comhfhocal ó dhá fhocal Gaeilge atá ann, ‘taibhse’, agus ‘dearcadh’; roghnaíodh an focal mar go raibh na bunaitheoirí ag iarraidh fís den saol eile a chruthú ar stáitse.
FÍS: Amharclann Náisiúnta na Gaeilge a bhuanú agus a chur chun cinn le béim ar cheannasaíocht agus foirfeacht.
MISEAN: Ionad náisiúnta gairmiúil a chur ar fáil chun léirithe Gaeilge a stáitsiú agus a phoibliú sa Taibhdhearc agus ar fud na tíre; áis chun tacú le hoiliúint agus nuálaíocht le lucht féachana; agus lucht úr gairme amharclainne, a oibríonn trí mheán na Gaeilge, a chothú.
