The streets of Dublin City Centre come to life with vibrant reflection and revelry on Easter Monday, March 28, as families are warmly invited to take over our city’s public spaces for a day of wonder and celebration of the Ireland of 100 years ago. RTÉ Reflecting the Rising is a very special project presented by RTÉ in partnership with Ireland 2016.

Bring the whole family out on Easter Monday for the largest public historical and cultural event ever staged in Ireland. Taking place from 11am to 6pm, public spaces are set to be abuzz with an enormous range of unique and exciting events.

Walk through Mary’s Lane in one of Dublin’s oldest neighbourhoods to the Smithfield Fruit Market, transformed back into its original Victorian style. Actors and musicians in period costume will set the scene as you are surrounded by poetry and portraiture, with aerial shows, games, workshops and more. Stroll down O’Connell Street, pedestrianised for the day and brimming with vintage drama, music, attractions and re-enactments of the events of Easter Week, or even be part of a live broadcast with Joe Duffy.

Wander Merrion Square and Stephen’s Green and enjoy live music and classic cars, taste authentic Gur cake, and be amazed by circus entertainers. These spaces and many more in eight zones across the city have been set aside for public use, with an amazing array of events planned. The including a Céili Mór, talks and exhibitions, live musical and theatrical performances, special films, interactive activities and family entertainment, as well as food tastings, games and richly detailed walking tours departing from several city centre locations.

All events are free, organised courtesy of RTÉ and Ireland 2016, who together seek to capture the sights, sounds and stories of our shared past. Cooperation for this programme graciously provided the National Transport Authority, Dublin City Council and the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.

Thousands of free tickets will be available to the public for indoor events; it’s strongly recommended that you secure your place for these as capacity is a regard.
