Inspiring Ireland is a project of the Digital Repository of Ireland at the Royal Irish Academy to curate and make Ireland’s digital cultural heritage openly available in a single online portal.

Tionscadal de chuid Thaisclann Dhigiteach na hÉireann in Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann é Inspiring Ireland a choimeádann oidhreacht dhigiteach chultúrtha na hÉireann agus a chuireann ar fáil í trí aon tairseach ar líne amháin.

Inspiring Ireland is an extensive online site that brings together digital cultural heritage from a wide variety of institutions in Ireland. The project has been developed by the Digital Repository of Ireland in collaboration with Ireland 2016 and the Office of the Minister of the Diaspora.

A fresh series of exhibits focusing on the known and not-so-known stories of people and events surrounding the Rising, Inspiring Ireland 1916: Weaving Public and Private Narratives will be brought to life online over the first six months of 2016. The exhibition uses fascinating objects such as digitised photos, diaries, posters, aural recordings, video and ephemera to tell the stories that surround the Rising, and paint a picture of everyday life in 1916.

The first exhibition to be released is Women in the Rising, available here.

The women who lived through Ireland’s revolution left us a wealth of information about their extraordinary experiences. Some did so enthusiastically and through a conviction that their contribution to the turbulent events of the early twentieth century should not forgotten; others agreed, sometimes reluctantly, to contribute their accounts to national collections, while the experiences of others survive in official records of destruction, dislocation and loss. Though often less public, the diaries, photographs, memorabilia and ephemera produced and retained by participants and onlookers similarly reflect aspects of the period as well as an enduring engagement with Ireland’s revolutionary decade.

Collectively, these accounts and artefacts remind us that the Irish revolution shaped the lives of women from all walks of life and in ways they could not have predicted, even if they participated in it willingly.

This exhibition allows us an unparalleled glimpse into the reality of a city under siege and of lives turned upside down in its wake.

Suíomh álainn ar líne is ea Éire a Spreagadh a thugann oidhreacht chultúrtha dhigiteach le chéile ó réimse leathan institiúidí in Éirinn. Tá sé á fhorbairt ag Taisclann Dhigiteach na hÉireann i gcomhar le hÉire 2016 agus Oifig an Aire Diaspóra.

Sraith nua taispeántán a dhíríonn ar scéalta aitheanta agus scéalta nach bhfuil an oiread sin aithne ag an bpobal orthu faoi dhaoine agus imeachtaí san Éirí Amach atá i gceist le  Inspiring Ireland 1916: Weaving Public and Private Narratives.  Tabharfar beocht do na scéalta seo ar líne sna chéad sé mhí de 2016. Baintear sochar as rudaí tarraingteacha sa taispeántas, mar shampla dialanna, póstaeir, taifeadtaí fuaime, físeáin, ábhar gearrshaolach agus grianghraif dhigitithe chun na scéalta a bhaineann leis an Éirí Amach a insint agus chun léargas a thabhairt ar an ngnáthshaol sa bhliain 1916.

Agus saininsint á cur i dteannta rudaí íocónacha ón gCartlann Náisiúnta, ó Leabharlann Náisiúnta na hÉireann, ón Ard-Mhúsaem agus ó Chartlann RTÉ, chomh maith le rudaí ‘coitianta’ ó bhailiúcháin phríobháideacha, tugann Inspiring Ireland 1916 (Éire a Spreagadh 1916) léargas fuinniúil ilmheánach ar dhaoine, ar imeachtaí agus ar oidhreacht 1916. Lena chois sin, beidh taispeántais sa tionscadal ina mbaintear úsáid as foinsí úrnua; mar shampla fianaise finné ó shaighdiúirí na Breataine a cuireadh go Baile Átha Cliath chun an troid a chur faoi chois, agus éilimh oifigiúla ar chúiteamh i leith réadmhaoine a ndearnadh damáiste di ó ghnólachtaí agus ó dhaoine aonair – na healaíontóirí Jack B. Yeats agus Harry Clarke san áireamh. Tá aistí léirmhínitheacha an tionscadail scríofa ag príomhstaraithe Éireannacha agus idirnáisiúnta i dtaobh 1916 agus an oidhreacht a bhaineann leis, an tOllamh Senia Paseta ó Ollscoil Oxford ina measc, a rinne an tráchtaireacht don chéad taispeántán ar shaol na mban.

Tógadh Inspiring Ireland (Éire a Spreagadh) ar bhonneagar caomhantais Thaisclann Dhigiteach na hÉireann, rud a chiallaíonn go gcaomhnaítear rudaí digiteacha le haghaidh fiosrú agus rochtain fhadtéarmach, lena chinntiú go mbeidh oidhreacht chultúrtha dhigiteach na hÉireann ar fáil sa chéad chomóradh céad bliain eile.

Coinnigh súil amach do Laethanta Bailiúcháin poiblí i do réigiún féin.
