Wild Sky is a powerful theatre experience that seeks to explore the extraordinary energy and complexity of events in Ireland in the lead up to Easter 1916.

Eispéireas téatair atá saibhir, cumhachtach agus tochtmhar is ea Wild Sky ina ndéantar iarracht iniúchadh a dhéanamh ar fhuinneamh agus ar chastacht iontach na n-imeachtaí in Éirinn sa tréimhse díreach roimh an gCáisc in 1916.

Written from a uniquely rural perspective by award-winning playwright Deirdre Kinahan, Wild Sky charts the radicalisation of a generation through the small cultural, national and sporting movements that flourished in Ireland at the turn of the 20th century.

Wild Sky takes the form of a blighted love story between three young friends from Slane, County Meath who are caught up in a maelstrom of influences bubbling beneath the surface of an apparently settled, loyal and conservative county on the border of Dublin.

The play commences with the retreat from the GPO intertwined with memories of radicalisation through social events and the influence of organisations such as The Gaelic League. The text is intertwined, accompanied and underscored by a suite of original songs by Grammy award-winning singer Susan McKeown, including her settings of poems from that time, and songs by Irish composers of 1916-1917.

Wild Sky is directed by celebrated theatre director Jo Mangan and features Irish Times award-winning young actors Caitriona Ennis and Ian Toner.

Deirdre Kinahan is both a playwright and producer. She was artistic director of Tall Tales Theatre Company for 15 years and now sits on the Abbey Theatre Board and on the Stewart Parker Trust Advisory Committee. Her work is translated into many languages and produced regularly in Ireland and on the international stage.

Wild Sky is a commissioned piece by Meath County Council Arts Office written in commemoration of 1916.

Is scéal grá saofa idir beirt chairde óga as Baile Shláine i gContae na Mí é Wild Sky, Tom Farrell agus Josie Dunne. Tá Tom i ngrá le Josie ó bhí sé sé bliana d’aois ach tá Josie i ngrá leis an gcara is fearr atá aige, an file mealltach Mike Lowrey (bunaithe go scaoilte ar Francis Ledgewick). Tá an triúr ag éirí aníos le chéile agus iad gafa i gcíor thuathail na dtionchar éagsúil atá ag brúchtaíl faoin dromchla i gcontae, ar contae socair, dílis agus coimeádach ar imeall Bhaile Átha Cliath é de réir cosúlachta. Téann Mike, atá ar thaobh Redmond, isteach in Arm na Breataine agus é den bharúil go mbainfear neamhspleáchas na hÉireann amach sa chogadh sin agus bíonn Josie gafa le Inghinidhe na hÉireann agus le Ceart Vótála Mhná na hÉireann. Téann Tom arb é is lú a bhfuil suim aige i gcúrsaí polaitíochta in éineacht leis na reibiliúnaigh i mBaile Átha Cliath faoi Cháisc 1916 ar ordú Josie atá báite sa pholaitíocht.

Is i bhfoirm dáin a théann an dráma beagnach ag tosú leis an deifir atá ar Tom ag teacht amach as Ard-Oifig an Phoist agus ar shruth a chuid smaointe ar a shiúlóid fada abhaile. Tá an Bruadar sin fite fuaite le cuimhní Josie ar an radacú trí ócáidí sóisialta agus tionchar eagraíochtaí ar nós Chonradh na Gaeilge.

Tá aird á tarraingt ar an téacs le hamhráin úrnua a scríobh Susan McKeown, amhránaí a bhfuil gradam Grammy bainte amach aici. Áirítear i measc na n-amhrán sin a cóirithe féin ar dhánta na linne, agus amhráin le cumadóirí Éireannacha ó thréimhse 1916-1917.

Choimisiúnaigh Oifig Ealaíon Chomhairle Contae na Mí Wild Sky a scríobhadh i gcuimhne 1916.
