A major exhibition charting Casement’s path from servant to Irish nationalist, eventually leading to the gallows in Pentonville Prison.

Mórthaispeántas ina leantar cosán Mhic Easmainn ó bhí sé ina státseirbhíseach go dtí go raibh sé ina náisiúnach Éireannach, ábhar ba siocair lena chrochadh i bPríosún Pentonville ar deireadh.

The exhibition will take visitors on a series of revolutionary journeys: Roger Casement’s path from servant of the Crown to Irish nationalist that led to the gallows in Pentonville Prison; the Easter Rising with the first stepping stone of the road to independence for Ireland.

The experience of Kerry people whose lives were transformed by the events of 1916. The exhibition provides a unique opportunity for people to engage with the national story in 2016 outside of Dublin. Casement’s landing in Banna was one of the few significant events of the Easter Rising to happen outside of the capital, and it had a national and international impact. The museum will provide a space for people to reflect on how the events of the period were experienced beyond the capital.

Casement’s international contribution as a humanitarian is still relatively unfamiliar to many outside of the academic world, dealing with his experiences in the Congo and the Amazon the exhibition will touch upon the big themes of the period – imperialism, the scramble for Africa, global capitalism and its effect on indigenous people, geo-politics and the build-up to the outbreak of war in 1914. This truly is a global story that will resonate not only with Irish people but with all of our international visitors.

The exhibition will display artefacts and photographs collected by Casement in the Congo and Putumayo, as his experience in both of those places is crucial to understanding the development of his views on British colonialism and imperialism.

Tabharfar cuairteoirí ar an taispeántas seo ar shraith turasanna réabhlóideacha: Aistear Ruairí Mhic Easmainn ó bheith ina sheirbhíseach don choróin agus ansin ina náisiúnach Éireannach agus a chríochnaigh lena chrochadh i bPríosún Pentonville.

Éirí Amach na Cásca mar chéad chloch chora ar an mbóthar go saoirse na hÉireann: Mar a mhair daoine ó Chiarraí imeachtaí 1916 agus mar a athraíodh a saol ó bhonn. Seans iontach is ea an taispeántas do dhaoine chun foghlaim faoi scéal an náisiúin i 1916 taobh amuigh de Bhaile Átha Cliath. Bhí teacht i dtír Mac Easmainn ar Thrá na Beannaí ar cheann den bheagán eachtraí taobh amuigh den ardchathair le linn Éirí Amach na Cásca a raibh tábhacht náisiúnta agus idirnáisiúnta leis.

Is beag cur amach atá ag daoine taobh amuigh den saol acadúil ar ról idirnáisiúnta Mhic Easmainn mar dhaonchara, dírítear sa taispeáinteas ar a thréimhse sa Chongó agus san Amasóin, pléitear le mórthéamaí na linne - an t-impiriúlachas, an Sciobadh ar an Afraic, an caipitleachas domhanda agus a thionchar ar phobail dúchais, geopholaitíocht agus an domhan ag druidim i dtreo cogaidh in 1914. Is scéal domhanda é seo dar ndóigh, a mbeidh spéis ní amháin ag muintir na hÉireann ann ach ag ár gcuairteoirí idirnáisiúnta ó gach cearn den domhan leis.

Costais an taispeántais - ábhar a fhoinsiú lena fháil ar iasacht, taispeántas a eagrú, a chur chun cinn etc. Cuirfear ar taispeáint déantáin agus grianghraif a chruinnigh Casement féin sa Chongó agus in Putumayo, ó tá tábhacht lenar bhain dó sa dá áit úd le tuiscint cheart a fháil ar fhorbairt a dhearcaidh ar an gcoilíneachas agus ar impiriúlachas na Breataine.
