Shifting Attitudes: 100 Years of Irish & UK Film Conversation Ag Athrú Meonta: 100 Bliain de Chomhrá na hÉireann agus na Ríochta Aontaithe sna Scannáin

  • Start / Tús:
  • 03.11.16
  • End / Críoch:
  • 27.11.16

Irish Film London delivers this major film series to mark the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising, an event in Dublin that reverberated around the world, mired as most of the imperial powers were in the Great War. The Rising changed utterly the most intimate and long-standing relations between Ireland and the United Kingdom that have played out over the succeeding century.

Cuireann Irish Film London an mhórshraith scannán seo i láthair mar cheiliúradh ar chomóradh céad bliain Éirí Amach na Cásca 1916, imeacht a tharla i mBaile Átha Cliath ach a bhí le brath ar fud an domhain mhóir, agus a raibh droch-cháil air díreach mar a bhí ar fhormhór de chumhachtaí na himpireachta sa Chogadh Mór. Chuir an tÉirí Amach athrú amach is amach ar an gcaidreamh dlúth fadseasmhach idir Éire agus an Ríocht Aontaithe a raibh a thionchar le brath ar feadh céad bliain ina dhiaidh sin.

The films programmed for this project will reflect on the cultural conversations between Ireland and Britain from 1916 to 2016 as projected through cinema.

The series explores the different perspectives brought into focus by the actual period or events depicted and the historical moment in which each film was produced. Aimed a general but discerning audience, the series invites viewers to consider how films reveal as much about the state of Anglo-Irish relations at the time the films were viewed, as they provide direct information about the historical events portrayed.

Seen together in retrospect, this series shows the extent of cinematic material there is in the major national archives. The series aims to challenge British and Irish audiences of today to reflect together on how the people of the two countries have connected, conversed and changed over the past century.

Irish Film London would like to acknowledge all the supporters of this project including: Culture Ireland, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland's Emigrant Support Programme, the Irish Film Institute, the Arts Council of Ireland, Film London, the BFI Film Audience Network, Film hub London and Birkbeck University.

Déanfar machnamh sna scannáin a taispeánfar mar chuid den fhéile seo, ar na comhráite cultúrtha a tharla idir Éire agus an Bhreatain ó 1916 go 2016, de réir mar a léirítear sa scannánaíocht iad.

Déanfar iniúchadh sa tsraith ar na dearcthaí éagsúla ar tugadh suntas dóibh sa tréimhse nó sna himeachtaí ar tugadh cuntas orthu agus an pointe stairiúil inar léiríodh gach scannán. Tá an tsraith dírithe ar lucht féachana ginearálta ach atá géarchúiseach ag an am céanna, agus tugtar cuireadh don lucht féachana machnamh a dhéanamh ar an gcaoi a dtugann scannáin léargas ar an gcaidreamh Angla-Éireannach tráth ar taispeánadh na scannáin, is a thug siad faisnéis dhíreach maidir leis na hócáidí stairiúla a taispeánadh.

Agus iad á dtaispeáint le chéile, taispeánann an tsraith seo chomh fairsing is atá ábhar pictiúrlainne sna mór-chartlanna náisiúnta. Tá sé mar aidhm ag an tsraith dúshlán a thabhairt do lucht féachana na linne seo sa Bhreatain agus in Éirinn chun machnamh a dhéanamh le chéile ar conas a nasc, a labhair agus a d’athraigh an dá thír le chéile le céad bliain anuas.
