Mná 2016

This project started out when members of a reading group began reading women's histories in 2015, realising that the 2016 commemorations were eminent. It became clear very quickly that there were many stories about women of 1916 that had been untold. The group then decided to bring the names of some of these women into the public domain. Mná 2016 was anxious to portray the lives of all types of women and to put their lives, vision and activities into the context of women's lives today. Mná 2016 is a year-long initiative and seeks to honour the voices of women in 1916 and to create interest and engagement with their vision by women in Ireland today. Aine Carey and Áine Ní Shioradáin are two members of the Mná 2016 group.

Mná 2016

Cuireadh an tionscadal seo ar bun nuair a thosaigh daoine as grúpa léitheoireachta ag léamh stair faoi mhná in 2015, mar gheall go raibh comóradh 2016 ar leac an dorais acu. Ba léir an-tapa go raibh go leor scéalta faoi mhná 1916 nár chuala aon duine riamh. Shocraigh an grúpa ansin ainmneacha roinnt de na mná sin a chur os comhair an phobail. Bhí iarracht ar bun ag Mná 2016 saol gach cineál mná a thaispeáint agus a saol, a bhfís agus a gcuid gníomhaíochtaí a chur i gcomhthéacs mhná na linne seo. Is tionscnamh bliana é Mná 2016 agus féachann sé le hómós a thabhairt don mhéid a bhí le rá ag mná 1916 agus spéis agus comhrá a chur ar bun maidir lena bhfís le mná in Éirinn na linne seo. Tá Anne Carey agus Áine Ní Shioradáin ina mbaill de ghrúpa Mhná 2016.
