A series of monthly talks on archaeological discoveries relating to the years between 1913 and 1923.

Sraith cainteanna míosúla ar ábhar seandálaíochta a haimsíodh a bhaineann leis na blianta idir 1913 agus 1923.

Throughout 2016 the Museum of Archaeology will host a monthly series of talks reviewing findings from recent archaeological research in Ireland and Europe relating to the Easter 1916 Rising, the War of Independence, the Civil War and the First World War. These talks will explore the role played by archaeology in discovering new information and artefactual evidence related to key conflicts which happened in the 10 tumultuous years between 1913 and 1923.

National and international speakers will include:

Dr Tony Pollard, Director of the Centre for Battlefield Archaeology. A University of Glasgow and conflict archaeologist who has excavated trenches and graves on the Western Front and advised on surveys of Irish battlefield sites.

Dr Marion Dowd - Sligo IT, an archaeologist specialising in the archaeology of Ireland’s caves, including those used during the War of Independence.

Dr Joanna Bruck - University of Bristol, who will speak of her research on Frongoch internment camp in Wales.

Heather Montgomery - Queen’s University Belfast, who is investigating the WWI practice trenches at the various regimental training camps across Ireland.

Franc Myles, an archaeologist who has researched events during 1916 in the GPO and Moore Street including the identification and recording of holes broken through buildings by Volunteers retreating from the GPO in 1916.

Dr Barra O'Donnabhain – University College Cork, who is the Director of the Spike Island Project, investigating the archaeology of Spike Island in Cobh Harbour.

Damian Shiels, an archaeologist who has investigated the archaeology of the War of Independence and Lar Joye, curator of arms and armour at the National Museum who will survey the events of Rising from a military perspective.

Ar feadh 2016 go léir beidh an Músaem Seandálaíochta i mbun sraith míosúil cainteanna ina bhféachfar arís ar thorthaí ó thaighde seandálaíochta a rinneadh le gairid in Éirinn agus san Eoraip a bhaineann le hÉirí Amach na Cásca 1916, le Cogadh na Saoirse, leis an gCogadh Cathartha agus leis an gCéad Chogadh Domhanda. Déanfar iniúchadh sna cainteanna ar an ról a bhí ag an tseandálaíocht chun teacht ar eolas nua agus ar fhianaise de na déantáin a bhaineann le coimhlintí móra a tharla sna 10 mbliana chorraitheacha sin idir 1913 agus 1923.

An Dr Barra Ó Donnabháin – Coláiste na hOllscoile, Corcaigh, Stiúrthóir Thogra Inis Spíce, atá ag déanamh imscrúdú ar sheandálaíocht Inis Spíce i gCuan Chorcaí.

Damian Shiels, seandálaí a rinne imscrúdú ar sheandálaíocht Chogadh na Saoirse agus Lar Joye, coimeádaí airm agus armúir ag an Ard-Mhúsaem. Déanfaidh sé suirbhé ar imeachtaí an Éirí Amach ó pheirspictíocht mhíleata de.

Coinníonn Ard-Mhúsaem na hÉireann a mbailiúcháin ar iontaobhas don náisiún. Tá freagracht ar leith orthu as cultúr ábhartha saibhir na hÉireann agus a pobal agus as stair nádúrtha ár n-oileáin. Tá saorchead isteach sna ceithre mhúsaem.
