As part of this year's Cairde Sligo Arts Festival, from Tuesday, July 5th to Friday, July 9th Blue Raincoat Theatre Company will present The Rallying Call, a series of pop–up outdoor performances set in the spring of 1916.

Mar chuid d’Fhéile Ealaíon Shligigh de chuid Cairde, ón Mairt, an 5 Iúil go dtí an Aoine, an 9 Iúil léireoidh an Blue Raincoat Theatre Company The Rallying Call, sraith de phreab-léirithe amuigh faoin aer bunaithe ar earrach 1916.

In the years preceding the Easter Rising, Leitrim man Sean MacDiarmada was the revolution's primary political organiser, travelling the length and breadth of the country, denouncing the state of government in Ireland and encouraging the formation of volunteer groups.

In these open-air public performances, Blue Raincoat Theatre Company imagine what MacDiarmada might have said had he come to Sligo in the early months of 1916, with country and continent awash in turmoil and uncertainty, and his plans for a Dublin uprising already well underway.

This production follows up on last year's breathtaking Cummeen Beach, Sligo performance of On Baile Strand by WB Yeats. The production also opened the inaugural New York Cùala Cultural Festival, with performances on the iconic Coney Island Beach in New York. Directed by Niall Henry, this unique one man show is written by Bob Kelly and features John Carty as Sean Mac Diarmada.

Where: Lady Erin monument, Market Street, Sligo

When: July 5-9, 2pm & 4pm

Sna blianta roimh Éirí Amach na Cásca, ba é Seán MacDiarmada, fear as Liatroim, príomheagraí polaitiúil an éirí amach, agus thaisteal sé ó cheann ceann na tíre, ag cáineadh staid an rialtais in Éirinn agus ag spreagadh bunú grúpaí óglach.

Sna léirithe seo amuigh faoin aer, samhlaíonn an Blue Raincoat Theatre Company cad a d’fhéadfadh bheith le rá ag Seán MacDiarmada dá dtiocfadh sé go Sligeach sa chéad chúpla mí i 1916, agus an tír agus an críoch trína chéile agus neamhchinnte, agus a phleananna d’éirí amach i mBaile Átha Cliath faoi lánseol cheana.

Is léiriú leantach é seo ar an léiriú iontach de On Baile Strand le WB Yeats a bhí ar siúl anuraidh ag Trá an Choimín, Sligeach. Osclaíodh an Fhéile Chultúrtha tionscnaimh Cùala i Nua-Eabhrac leis an léiriú seo, agus bhí léirithe ar siúl ar Coney Island Beach i Nua-Eabhrac. Arna stiúradh ag Niall Henry, tá an seó uathúil fear amháin seo scríofa ag Bob Kelly agus tá páirt Sheáin MhicDhiarmada ag John Carty ann.

Cén áit: Séadchomhartha Lady Erin, Sráid an Mhargaidh, Sligeach
