Galway Whispers Revolution takes to the streets of The Latin Quarter combing live street theatre with performances in local bars.

Rachaidh Galway Whispers Revolution chun na sráideanna sa Cheathrú Laidine ina mbeidh meascán de thaibhiú sráide beo agus taibhithe i dtithe tábhairne áitiúla.

As the 1916 commemorations reach a pinnacle in the lead up to Easter weekend there is something stirring in The Latin Quarter with ‘Galway Whispers Revolution’ taking to the streets of the city to mark the centenary of the rising!

On Tuesday 22nd, Wednesday 23rd and Holy Thursday 24th March the scene will be set for a live re-enactment of the clandestine meetings that happened around Galway during this time. Feel the fear and danger that was present during this era as actors in full costume will assume the roles of senior Galway IRB and Cumann na mBan figures as they try to hold their secret meeting to plan and debate the details of the 1916 Easter Rising.

Each day from 12 noon, 3pm and 5pm Galway Whispers Revolution will take to the streets of the Latin Quarter with mischief, excitement and humour guaranteed with live performance and dramatic scenes on the streets, spilling into various local bar’s including; Tig Cóilí, Tigh Neachtain’s, The Dail Bar, The Front Door, Taaffes, the Quays Bar and The Kings Head and Sonny Molloy’s. There will be comical interaction with onlookers and banter with passers-by, along with entertaining confrontations with the un-expecting customers in the public houses, with Galway Whispers Revolution promising to be a highlight of the 1916 commemorations.

Seamus Hughes, Creative Director of Galway Whispers Revolution said “While many of the 1916 commemorations are quite ceremonial or official, Galway Whispers Revolution will take a more humorous approach yet still being reflective of the real events, engagement and sense of danger present at that time. We’d like to thank Galway City Council, the Latin Quarter and numerous city centre bars for supporting the event, which promises to be an unforgettable celebratory occasion”.

“Our city is renowned for its festive ambience and street theatre, and the Galway Whispers Revolution is the perfect way for the City of the Tribes to mark the 1916 commemorations. The Latin Quarter is delighted to both support and host the event, and we are encouraging as many people as possible to come along and be part of these special performances being held through the streets of the Latin Quarter and is the various bars. It’s free of charge and suitable for all the family” added Margaret Jenkins, Chairperson of The Latin Quarter.

De réir mar a shroicheann comóradh 1916 a bhuaicphointe roimh dheireadh seachtaine na Cásca, tá rud éigin ag corraí sa Cheathrú Laidine agus ‘Galway Whispers Revolution’ ag siúl ar shráideanna na cathrach chun comóradh a dhéanamh ar an éirí amach!

Dé Máirt an 22 Márta, Dé Céadaoin an 23 Márta agus Déardaoin Beannaithe an 24 Márta déanfar athléiriú beo ar chruinnithe folaitheacha a tharla timpeall na Gaillimhe i rith an ama sin. Braithfidh tú an eagla agus an chontúirt a bhí ann sa ré sin nuair a ghlacfaidh aisteoirí a bheidh gléasta go cuí róil fhigiúirí sinsearacha IRB agus Chumann na mBan i nGaillimh fad is dhéanann siad iarracht cruinniú rúnda a bheith acu chun sonraí Éirí Amach 1916 a phleanáil agus a phlé.

Gach lá ón 12 meán lae, ó 3pm agus ó 5pm rachaidh Galway Whispers Revolution amach ar shráideanna na Ceathrún Laidine lán le diabhlaíocht, le sceitimíní agus le greann le taibhiú beo agus le radhairc dhrámatúla ar na sráideanna, ag dul isteach i dtithe tábhairne áitiúla lena n-áirítear: Tig Cóilí, Tigh Neachtain, The Dáil Bar, The Front Door, Taaffe’s, the Quays Bar agus The Kings Head agus Sonny Molloy’s. Beidh idirghníomhú greannmhar le breathnóirí i gceist agus caint le daoine ag siúl na sráideanna, mar aon le coimhlintí gan choinne le custaiméirí sna tithe tábhairne. Beidh Galway Whispers Revolution ar cheann de bhuaicphointí chomóradh 1916.

Deir Seamus Hughes, Stiúrthóir Cruthaitheach Galway Whispers Revolution “Cé go bhfuil mórán de chomóradh 1916 searmanach nó oifigiúil, glacfar cur chuige níos greannmhaire in Galway Whispers Revolution cé go mbeidh sé fós machnamhach ar na himeachtaí a tharla, ar rannpháirtíocht agus ar an gcontúirt a bhain leis an am. Ba mhaith linn buíochas a ghabháil le Comhairle Cathrach na Gaillimhe, leis an gCeathrú Laidine agus le tithe tábhairne lár na cathrach as tacú leis an imeacht, ar imeacht ceiliúrtha den chéad scoth a bheidh ann.”

“Tá cáil ar ár gcathair as a hatmaisféar spraíúil agus as a taibhiú sráide, agus is é Galway Whispers Revolution an bealach is fearr do Chathair na dTreabh le ceiliúradh a dhéanamh ar chomóradh 1916. Tá áthas ar an gCeathrú Laidine tacú leis an imeacht agus é a óstáil, agus spreagaimid a mhéad daoine agus is féidir a bheith i láthair agus a bheith páirteach sna taibhithe speisialta seo a bheidh ar siúl ar shráideanna na Ceathrún Laidine agus ina tithe tábhairne éagsúla. Tá sé saor in aisce agus oiriúnach don teaghlach ar fad,” a dúirt Margaret Jenkins, Cathaoirleach na Ceathrún Laidine.
