Emotional Archaeology is a large scale solo retrospective exhibition of Daphne Wright's art curated by Jo Lanyon and presented at Arnolfini, Bristol. For over twenty five years and often ahead of her time, Daphne Wright has developed sculptural languages and conceptual tactics that have been quietly influential.

Wright’s art is the result of a relentless curiosity into the way in which a range of materials can create an involvement with unspoken human preoccupations.

Casting, sound recording, film making and drawing result in a series of works that explores issues such as parenting, ageing and mankind’s complex relationship with animals. Wright is not afraid to embrace domestic and familial subjects in order to encourage a genuine psychological commitment from the viewer. This is a retrospective look at Wright as an emotional archaeologist.

Wright (born in 1963, Ireland) is represented by Frith Street Gallery, London, and was elected as a member of the Aosdana, Irish Association of Artists in 2011.

Woven into the fabric of Bristol’s cultural offer since 1961, Arnolfini presents an ambitious programme of contemporary arts including visual art, performance, dance, film and music. Dramatically sited in the city’s vibrant harbourside, the centre introduces new and major work by international artists to over 500,000 visitors annually, alongside inclusive learning initiatives designed to spark interest in contemporary art.

Mórthaispeántas siarghabhálach aonair d’ealaín le Daphne Wright is ea Emotional Archaeology. Tá sé á choimeád ag Jo Lanyon agus tá sé á chur i láthair in Arnolfini, Briostó. Le breis agus cúig bliana is fiche, agus í chun cinn ar a linn féin go minic, tá teangacha dealbhóireachta agus taicticí coincheapúla á bhforbairt ag Daphne Wright, nithe a bhfuil tionchar ciúin imeartha acu.

Tháinig ealaín Wright as fiosracht gan staonadh faoin dóigh ar féidir raon ábhar a úsáid chun rannpháirtíocht a chruthú le smaointe an duine nach labhraítear fúthu.

Is é an toradh atá ar an roghnú aisteoirí, ar an taifeadadh fuaime, ar an scannánaíocht agus ar an líníocht ná sraith píosaí saothair ina ndéantar iniúchadh ar shaincheisteanna amhail an tuismitheoireacht, dul in aois agus an caidreamh casta a bhíonn ag an duine le hainmhithe. Níl eagla ar Wright plé le hábhair thí ná le hábhair theaghlaigh ar mhaithe le fíorthiomantas síceolaíoch a spreagadh ón amharcóir. Is taispeántas siarghabhálach é seo de shaothar Wright mar sheandálaí mothúchán.

Déanann Frith Street Gallery, Londain, ionadaíocht do Wright (a rugadh in Éirinn sa bhliain 1963) agus toghadh mar chomhalta d’Aosdána, Cumann Éireannach na nEalaíontóirí, sa bhliain 2011 í.

Agus é fite fuaite le tairiscint chultúrtha Bhriostó ón mbliain 1961, cuirtear clár uaillmhianach ealaíon comhaimseartha i láthair in Arnolfini, lena n-áirítear an amharcealaín, taibhiú, damhsa, scannán agus ceol. Tá an t-ionad suite i limistéar bríomhar cuain na cathrach agus is san áit sin a thaispeántar saothar nua agus mórshaothar ó ealaíontóirí idirnáisiúnta den chéad uair do níos mó 500,000 cuairteoir gach bliain, taobh le tionscnaimh chuimsitheacha foghlama arb é is aidhm dóibh spéis a chothú san ealaín chomhaimseartha.
