Dublin City Council will publish three new books in its Decade of Commemorations series in 2016.

Foilseoidh Comhairle Cathrach Bhaile Átha Cliath 3 leabhar nua sa tsraith Deich mBliana na gCuimhneachán le linn 2016.

Dublin City Council and the 1916 Rising Editor John Gibney; series editors Mary Clark and Máire Kennedy: The book will include chapters on the role of Dublin City Council aldermen and councillors and Dublin Corporation staff in the Rising, the garrisons at City Hall and Jacob’s factory, and the critical role played by Dublin Fire Brigade.

Women and the Easter Rising; the 77 women by Mary McAuliffe and Elizabeth Gillis: This publication will feature a biographical listing with photographs of the 77 women who took part in the Rising and were arrested and held in Richmond Barracks after the surrender. Many of these women were members of The Irish Citizen Army, Cumann na mBan or Clan na nGaedhal Girl scouts. Accompanying essays will analyse the activism of these women and their contributions and legacies in the new Irish Free State.

Echoes of Easter: Dublin Fire Brigade and the 1916 Rising
by Las Fallon: Illustrated with contemporary photos and material from the Dublin Fire Brigade Museum and private collections, this volume will detail the work of the Fire Brigade during the week of the Rising. The book will also look at the many family connections between serving and retired members of the Dublin Fire Brigade and those who took part in the Rising, giving an insight into the organisation’s links with the events of 100 years ago.

More than Concrete Blocks: Dublin’s buildings and their stories (Volume I, 1900 – 1939), Editor and contributor Dr Ellen Rowley (Dublin City Council/Heritage Council of Ireland): The first of three volumes, this book will focus on the city pre- and post- independence: the revolutionary city and the free state city. Two essays will set the social and political backdrop to new and emerging architecture while the body of the book will contain essays on 32 Dublin buildings from the period which illustrate the changes in architecture, building types, and materials over the period.
