Irish Trade Union Congress Reports, 1903 – 1925:

This is a fully searchable pdf set of the annual reports of the Irish Trade Union Congress over the period of the decade of centenaries, including the report for 1916, which includes a lengthy section on the Rising and its implications for the Labour movement. The reports are accompanied by a contextual essay by the labour historian Padraig Yeates, a gallery of contemporary photographs, and selected significant extracts from the Reports. This project was a partnership between NAI and ICTU.

Property Losses (Ireland) Compensation (PLIC) files, 1916:

This collection includes pdf images of  6500 files dealing with compensation for damage to property during the 1916 Rising. For the first time, a comprehensive picture can be created of the material losses suffered by the citizens of Dublin, as a result of the destruction visited upon the city by the Rising. All levels of Irish society are represented from claims for householders’ curtains destroyed by gunfire in the North Strand, gallons of milk taken by Crown forces in Foley Street, Repertory Company theatrical costumes destroyed by fire in Sackville (O’Connell) Street, to claims for the loss of valuable jewellery left for repair and subsequently destroyed in various jewellers around the city and luxury goods such as furs and silk lost by hotel visitors. The collection includes detailed inventories of goods and furnishings destroyed in some households and in commercial premises of all types and sizes, from single traders working out of back rooms, to Clery and Company for the rebuilding of their world famous department store on Sackville Street. The files are accompanied by a comprehensive searchable catalogue.

Courtmartial Reports for the 15 executed 1916 leaders:

These reports contain pdf images of the files for each of the executed 1916 leaders, who were tried and shot between 3rd and 12th May 1916. Each file contains the statement of the prisoner to the court martial, and sometimes last letters to loved ones. They also contain official confirmation of their deaths. The swift executions of these men did much to change Irish public opinion towards the Rising, and this change made possible the War of Independence in the aftermath of Sinn Fein’s victory in the 1918 general election. The files are accompanied by a database giving details of their contents, a contextual essay by Dr.Fearghal McGarry, and short biographies of each of the executed men. The originals of these iconic records are in the possession of The National Archives in London. Purchase of the images was made possible by Universities Ireland.

Dublin Metropolitan Police files:

This section will include ongoing weekly release of pdf images of daily reports prepared by superintendent Owen Brien of the DMP submitted to the Under Secretary in Dublin Castle. The reports give details of the movements and associations of known ‘extremists’ in Dublin including lists of visitors to Thomas J Clarke’s shop at 75 Parnell Street; reports on activity at the Sinn Fein Volunteer Office, 2 Dawson Street, and at 41 Parnell Square; details of arrivals and departures of individuals at the four Dublin train stations and Dublin port; and particulars of political meetings and public addresses. The reports continue to April 1916.
