100 Years of Cinema: The Irish Short 100 Bliain Scannánaíochta: Gearrscannáin Éireannacha

Galway, UNESCO City of Film, is commemorating the 1916 Rising with an exciting programme of seminal Irish cinema and landmark television events to take place over eight Saturdays throughout 2016.

Tá Ceantar Scannán UNESCO na Gaillimhe ag ceiliúradh Eirí Amach 1916 le clár spreagúil scannáin agus teilifíse a bheidh á reachtáil thar 8 Satharn i 2016.

The programme will include screenings, debate and lively discussion of the development of our national identity and our national cinema over the past one hundred years.

Each event will be themed and programmed by a different guest curator, with June screenings curated by Mick Hannigan, INDIE Cork Programmer.

Saturday, June 18th at 11.30 am: 

UNESCO City of Film free screening of short films made during Galway Film Centre’s Documentary School & Film School.

12pm: Splanc! 2016

Special free screening of TG4 and the Arts Council’s eight new short film commissions under their Splanc! scheme. Splanc! is the Irish language arts documentary scheme that supports the creative exploration of the arts in Ireland which was administered by Galway Film Centre.

1pm: Towards a Canon of Great Irish Shorts selected by Mick Hannigan

For over thirty years, Mick Hannigan has picked the best Irish Shorts for his festival programmes. He serves as a member of the board of Clermont Ferrand Short Film Conference and he is also former Artistic Director of the Cork Film Festival and currently works with the Indie Cork Film Festival.

Joining Mick on the day will be Felim McDermott, former Galway Film Fleadh programmer, who will interview Mick and there will also be an opportunity to hear some of the filmmakers selected to talk about their work.

Taispeántas saor in aisce speisialta d’ocht ghearrscannán nua ó Splanc! - scéim de chuid TG4 agus An Chomhairle Ealaíon á riarú ag Ionad Scannán na Gaillimhe.  Is scéim do Scannáin Faisnéise Ealaíona i nGaeilge é Splanc! a thacaíonn le scannáin a chuireann na hEalaíona in Éirinn faoi chaibidil.

1.00in: I dtreo Cnuasach gearrscannáin Éireannacha den scoth roghnaithe ag Mick Hannigan

Le 30 bliain anuas tá Mick Hannigan ag roghnú scoth na n-Gearrscannán Éireannacha dá fhéilte scannán. Tá sé mar bhall de bhord stiúrtha Chomhdháil Ghearrscannáin Clermont Ferrand agus is Iar-Stiúrthóir Fhéile Scannán Chorcaí é.  Faoi láthair oibríonn sé le Féile Neamhspleách Chorcaí. 

Beidh Felim McDermott, iar-stiúrthóir Fleadh Scannán na Gaillimhe, i láthair chomh maith ar an lá chun agallamh a dhéanamh le Mick. Beidh lucht déanta scannán i láthair chomh maith chun a gcuid saothair a phlé.
